Capsized tot drowns
17.05.2010
A TODDLER aged 16 monthshas drowned after the boat he
was in capsized in the early
hours of yesterday morning,
also plunging two adults and
another three-year-old child
into icy seas off the coast of
central Queensland.
The Gracemere family was
on a fishing trip when the
accident occurred around 5am
yesterday. The six-metre boat
capsized so quickly the family
had little time to react and set
off an emergency beacon.
The two children were wearing
lifejackets but the adults
were not, according to the
Coast Guard. "The boat went
down very suddenly," a Coast
Guard volunteer said.
Another boat, the Mum And
I, was also cruising off the coast
of Yeppoon around Sam when a
passenger on board spotted the
family in the water.
