Views to live for
30.03.2010
It's a $70,000 tower that will do apower of good for the Sunshine
Beach Surf Life Saving Club and
the council lifeguard in their bid
to be extra vigilant this bumper
Easter.
Sunshine Coast council's
timing has been spot on as they
managed to crane the new
vantage and communications
centre, purpose-built at Kawana,
into place.
Councillor Russell Green, who
has had a long association with
surf and stillwater lifesaving,
was on hand to watch the tricky
business of setting the tower
into a more forward-looking
position than the superseded
observation tower.
"There was a problem with
the old tower because it was
back in the trees and did not
have as good a line of sight down
the beach as this one and council
would have to come along every
few months and trim the trees
back," Cr Green said.
"Council is funding this for
use by the volunteer lifesavers
and its lifeguards and is looking
to upgrade the Peregian tower
and later will move the Noosa
tower forward."
Cr Green said the Noosa shift
would also improve visibility as
it would be part of the
boardwalk makeover.
At Sunshine it means that the
lifeguards will no longer have to
be down on the beach in fine
weather for the best view.
