NSW Lifeguard of the Year

NSW ALS Lifeguard Of The Year

Northern Region Lifeguard Coordinator Scott McCartney has taken out top honours and was awarded Lifeguard of the Year at the NSW Surf Life Saving Awards of Excellence on the weekend in Sydney.

Scott has worked for the Australian Lifeguard Service (ALS) for more than seven years and during this time he has performed numerous major rescues and has attended some serious incidents and coastal emergencies.

As the Lifeguard Coordinator for the Northern Region, Scott oversees ALS operations from the Tweed down to Nambucca and takes pride in mentoring and developing the northern region lifeguards through education and training.

Scott has proven himself an outstanding lifeguard over many years, says Lifeguard Manager for NSW, Murray Copas.

“With a big area to cover, Scott does a fantastic job ensuring the beach safety services provided by councils are first class,” said Copas.

Scott was very happy and surprised to be named Lifeguard of the Year.

“I am incredibly honoured to receive this award, it has come as I huge surprise. I am lucky that I am able to do something I love everyday and make a difference in the community” said Scott.

Scott is also a proud volunteer surf lifesaver at Cudgen Headland SLSC and a talented surf sports competitor and has won State titles, including Open Male Board race. He was also selected to go to Thailand and work with the Phuket Lifeguards, helping to train locals in beach safety and rescue techniques.

The SLSNSW Awards of Excellence acknowledge surf lifesavers from through NSW who have performed invaluable public service as lifesavers, administrators or trainers within the community. This year the awards were proudly supported by Stramit Building Products.
