Service management

The Australian Lifeguard Service is a division of Surf Life Saving Australia. The National Lifeguard Committee, which sits under the SLSA Board of Lifesaving, represents the interests of each of the state centres.

The committee is made up of the Lifeguard Manager (or equivalent) from each state centre and is chaired by the National Lifeguard Manager. The committee meets face-to-face a minimum of two times a year and between these meetings also conducts a number of teleconferences on a needs basis. ALS employees can provide feedback through their state manager to the National Lifeguard Committee.

The ALS (National) takes on the umbrella role of aligning the state centres, which are the operational arms of the ALS and provide the day to day running of services within their state.

There are the six components of the Australian Lifeguard Service.

  1. Business and Brand Management
  2. Provision of Lifeguard Services
  3. Commercial Lifeguard Training
  4. Standards and Systems
  5. Personnel or Human Resources
  6. Australian Lifeguard Service Network
